Wholesale Limited, Tora SG Limited, and franchisees of Giant Tiger Stores Limited (collectively referred to as “Giant Tiger”, “we” or “us”) are committed to protecting your privacy and safeguarding your Personal Information (as defined below).
This Privacy Policy outlines how we collect, use, retain, and disclose your Personal Information, how you can access and update your Personal Information and how to contact us for privacy related questions or concerns.
In some instances, additional terms and conditions may be provided to you regarding how we collect, use, retain, and disclose your Personal Information such as when you visit our websites, sign up for, participate in or purchase a specific product, service, program, contest, promotion, survey or event through Giant Tiger. Those terms and conditions will apply in conjunction with this Privacy Policy.
By providing your Personal Information to Giant Tiger and continuing to use Giant Tiger, you consent to the collection, use and disclosure of your Personal Information for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy and/or the purposes presented to you at the time of collection. If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy or those presented to you at the time of collection, please do not share your Personal Information with us.

A. What is Personal Information?
Personal Information is any information which could be used alone or in combination with other information to identify an individual. For example, Personal Information can include your name, your personal email, your personal phone number and purchase history.
Personal Information is only collected with your consent and will only be used for the purposes disclosed at the point of collection or as set out in this Privacy Policy, unless otherwise required by law.
B. What Categories of Personal Information do we Collect?
Giant Tiger limits the collection of Personal Information to what is necessary to fulfill the purposes identified in this Privacy Policy or for purposes presented to you at the time of collection.
We may collect Personal Information about you depending on your interactions with Giant Tiger for instance, if you are a customer, a website visitor or a job applicant. We may collect Personal Information, such as:
i. Identifiers, such as your full name, personal email address, personal mailing address, personal telephone number, birthday or age range, household composition, gender and other information you provide to us when you interact with us. We may also collect your signature or government issued-ID, when needed.
ii. Browsing activity, when you visit our websites or use our digital applications. This information is collected via automated means, such as cookies, web beacons and similar technologies, and may include your IP address, device ID, browser type, data about the web pages you visited on our websites, your language preferences, email bounce backs and click-throughs, and your store and shopping preferences.
iii. Purchase related information such as when you participate in our Loyalty Program.
iv. Professional or employment-related information, which may include Personal Information such as your Identifiers, letters of motivation, your resume, your references and any additional information you provide when you apply for a career opportunity at Giant Tiger.
v. Background check and/or credit check information, including criminal records, conducted in the context of employment related interactions with Giant Tiger.
vi. Image, video footage and audio recordings, such as CCTV footage collected as part of security to our premises including image and video footage collected during your visits to our stores, distribution centers, head office or other Giant Tiger facilities, or audio recordings when you contact us by phone;
vii. Any other information you provide to us, such as when you contact us by email, on the phone or in-person.
C. How We Collect Your Personal Information?
Giant Tiger collects Personal Information in a variety of ways, including directly from you, from third parties and through our websites.
1) Directly From You
We may collect Personal Information directly from you, such as when you create an account with Giant Tiger, when you make a purchase at Giant Tiger (in store or online), when you visit our stores or facilities, when you sign up for our loyalty program, when you participate in any of our customer surveys or our marketing communications, when you participate in a contest or promotion, when you request a “rain cheque” or return an item without a receipt, when you apply for a career opportunity with us or when you contact us.
2) From Third Parties
From time to time, Giant Tiger stores may provide space and work with other organizations to provide specific services. For example:
- Western Union to provide money transfer services in select Giant Tiger stores;
- Shipping vendors to complete deliveries of our products to our stores or your specified location;
These organizations and/or Giant Tiger may collect your Personal Information (e.g., name, personal address, personal phone number and personal email and purchase information) when you use their services. The Personal Information they collect is subject to their own privacy policies, while any Personal Information collected and handled by Giant Tiger employees will continue to be subject to this Privacy Policy or the terms and conditions presented at the time of collection. Giant Tiger requires all third parties operating at Giant Tiger stores to implement adequate safeguards to protect Personal Information, enforced through contractual means.
Giant Tiger may also engage the services of third-party service providers to provide administrative services.
3) Through our Websites
We use our own and third-party technologies to collect technical information (such as your IP address, browser settings, browsing history, and site preferences, etc.) about you when you interact with our websites, using technologies, such as cookies.
We currently use the following types of cookies on our websites:
i. Strictly necessary cookies: these cookies are needed for our website to function and cannot be switched off in our systems. You may disable these cookies by changing your browser settings. However, this will affect how our website functions and may prevent you from using certain features of the website.
ii. Functional cookies: These cookies allow us to analyze your use of the site to evaluate and improve our performance. They may also be used to provide a better customer experience on this site. For example, remembering your log-in details, saving what is in your shopping cart, or providing us information about how our site is used. You may disable these cookies by clicking on the Cookie Preferences link on our website.
iii. Advertising cookies: These cookies are used to show you ads that are more relevant to you. We may share this information with advertisers or use it to better understand your interests. Under certain circumstances, we permit these third-party service providers to collect information on our website for their own business purposes using cookies or other similar technologies.
We use third-party service providers to place ads that we think will interest you on Giant Tiger or other websites (interest-based advertising, also called online behavioural advertising). To learn more about how our third-party service providers use web beacons or cookies for behavioural advertising and to manage your choices (e.g., opt-in or opt-out) for this type of advertising, you can visit the Interactive Advertising Bureau of Canada Website, Your AdChoices by the Digital Advertising Alliance and the Network Advertising Initiative (including for Microsoft Bing). Other advertising providers include opt-out tools on their websites and apps, including for Snapchat and Facebook. For Shopify Audiences, you can opt out on the Shopify website. Shopify Audiences also respects the Global Privacy Control settings in most browsers to prevent Shopify Audiences tracking.
We use Shopify Audiences to help us show ads on other websites with our advertising partners to buyers who made purchases with other Shopify merchants and who may also be interested in what we have to offer. We also share information about your use of the website, your purchases and the email address associated with your purchases with Shopify Audiences, through which other Shopify merchants may make offers you may be interested in.
We use Google Analytics to collect information on visitors to our website in order to provide us with statistics on website activity. If you would like to opt out of Google collecting your browsing history, please find more information on how to do so, including how to download their browser add-on.

4) From Other Sources
We may occasionally obtain information from other sources that help us analyze, update, expand our records and identify new guests (e.g., updating contact information or adding demographic information). Giant Tiger uses this information to improve our ability to contact you and increase the relevance of our marketing to you. These companies must follow privacy laws and Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation when collecting and sharing the information with Giant Tiger.
D. How We Use Your Personal Information?
We use your Personal Information for many reasons, including to give you a better shopping experience in store and online, to send you offers and contests we think you will be interested in, and to protect against fraud and theft or meet our legal requirements.
For example, we use your Personal Information for the following purposes or otherwise, with your consent or as permitted or required by law:
i. General business purposes, such as processing, providing or delivering a product or service requested within our stores (online and in-store), managing our business, including our websites, communicating with you and responding to your inquiries, meeting our contractual, legal and regulatory obligations as well as for purposes relating to information, system or network security.
ii. Processing job applications, such as to verify suitability for employment and for pre-screening purposes, verifying education, assessing qualifications, verifying references, conducting criminal background and credit checks when relevant to the position.
iii. Marketing purposes, such as to send you marketing communications and other information you have chosen to receive regarding products, services and promotions, and to administer our promotions, sweepstakes and contests, subject to your privacy choices as explained under How to Make or Change your Privacy Choices? below.
iv. To enhance our website’s design, functionality, and optimizing our marketing efforts through the use of cookies and similar technologies, subject to your privacy choices as explained under How to Make or Change your Privacy Choices? below.
v. Improve In Store Experience to better understand overall customer purchasing patterns and preferences to better tailor our in-store experience and better meet customer needs.
vi. Conduct research: such as to send you surveys or questionnaires for research purposes to secure your opinion on various topics such as our services or products.
E. How We Share your Personal Information
Giant Tiger does not sell customer Personal Information to any other organization or person for any reason. Giant Tiger will only share or disclose Personal Information to third parties in order to support Giant Tiger’s collection or use of your information for purposes outlined in the section titled How We Use Your Personal Information or as presented to you at the time of collection where we have received your consent, unless otherwise permitted or required by law.
1) Business Partners
Giant Tiger may share your personal information with businesses such as business partners, including franchisees, with whom we work and/or that use our products, to the extent permitted by law.
2) Services Providers and Suppliers
Giant Tiger may make your Personal Information available to third-party service providers for various reasons such as to help us provide you with a better shopping experience and improve our business operations; to provide, operate and maintain our information technology systems and services; to operate our website; to process payments and complete transactions; to provide customer care services; to conduct promotions, advertising, analytics, marketing activities and events, to conduct research, to provide shipping and inventory services and to process job applications. Where Personal Information is processed by a third-party provider, we sign agreements with those providers requiring them: (1) to use your Personal Information in a manner consistent with this Privacy Policy as well as any terms and conditions presented at time of collection and with applicable federal and provincial privacy legislation in Canada governing the collection, use and disclosure of your information.; (2) to only use your Personal Information for the purposes for which the third-party provider is retained; and (3) to protect your Personal Information to the same degree as it is when in our possession.
Some of our third-party providers may be located (or use servers located) outside of Canada, including in the United States, and may be required to abide by foreign privacy laws or to disclose Personal Information under the laws of other jurisdictions. When working with such service providers, Giant Tiger continues to require privacy and security safeguards consistent with the expectations of Giant Tiger under Canadian law and this Privacy Policy, in addition to any laws or standards that may apply to specific service providers, enforced through contractual means.
3) Business Transfers or Mergers or Other Transactions
In the case of a prospective or completed corporate reorganization, merger, sale of business, transfer or other disposition of all or part of the assets or shares of Giant Tiger (including the proceedings of bankruptcy or insolvency), Personal Information about you and other data as described in this Privacy Policy may be part of the transferred assets and may be shared with the other parties to the transaction by complying with the confidentiality requirements under applicable Canadian legislation.
Any third party to which Giant Tiger would transfer or sell its assets will have the right to continue to use your personal and other information, provided that they comply with applicable federal and provincial privacy legislation in Canada governing use and disclosure of your information in such circumstances.

In limited circumstances, Personal Information may be shared in order to meet our legal requirements and to protect Giant Tiger from any illegal or fraudulent activities, or any activities that put the security or integrity of Giant Tiger operations, websites, stores, employees or customers, at risk.
For example, we may need to disclose your Personal Information in order to:
i. Investigate, prevent or take action regarding suspected or actual illegal activities, including fraud or to assist government enforcement agencies.
ii. Enforce this Privacy Policy, investigate and defend Giant Tiger against any third-party claims or allegations, or protect the security or integrity of our websites.
iii. Exercise or protect the rights, property or personal safety of Giant Tiger, our users, employees, agents or others.
F. Retention of Personal Information
Your Personal Information is retained only as long as necessary for the fulfillment of the purposes for which it was collected, such as to respond to your inquiry, to process your job application or to manage our business operations, except where otherwise necessary to comply with legal or regulatory requirements.
Once the Personal Information is no longer required, Giant Tiger ensures that this Personal Information is securely destroyed so that the information no longer is identifiable as information relating to you. We have strict procedures in place with respect to destroying, deleting or disposing of Personal Information when it is no longer required for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy or by law.
G. How we Protect your Personal Information
Giant Tiger maintains appropriate policies and practices aimed at safeguarding your personal information. Depending on the volume and sensitivity of the information, the purposes for which it is used and the format in which it is stored, we implement a combination of measures to protect your personal information, including:
i. Internal policies and procedures that define the roles and responsibilities of our employees throughout the information life cycle and limits their access to such information on a “need-to-know” basis.
ii. If information is collected or stored in electronic format, technical safeguards such as encryption, firewalls, passwords, antivirus software and similar measures.
iii. A designated Privacy Officer to monitor Giant Tiger’s compliance with applicable privacy laws.
iv. Employee privacy and data security training.
Our goal is to prevent unauthorized access, loss, misuse, sharing or alteration of personal information in our possession. We also use these safeguards when we dispose of or destroy your personal information.
H. How to Access or Correct your Personal Information?
When Giant Tiger collects your Personal Information, we take reasonable measures to keep your information up to date and accurate. We will rely on you to ensure that your Personal Information held by us is as accurate, complete and up to date as necessary for the purposes for which we use your Personal Information.
Where you wish to update or correct your Personal Information, you may do so in the following ways:
i. Logging into your Giant Tiger account on our website and updating your profile information (if you have created a Giant Tiger Loyalty Program account)
ii. Contacting our Customer Service through email or the postal address listed in the Contacting Us section of this Privacy Policy
iii. Sending a written request to Giant Tiger’s Privacy Office, through email or the postal address listed in the Contacting Us section of this Privacy Policy.
Upon your request, you will be informed of the existence, use, and disclosure of your Personal Information and you may be given access to that information, where reasonable and subject to certain legal limitations. You may challenge the accuracy and completeness of the information and have it amended as appropriate. Administrative charges may apply, where reasonable and legally permissible.
We will assist any customer who informs us that they need assistance in preparing a request concerning their Personal Information. For assistance, please contact our Privacy Office.
I. How to Make or Change your Privacy Choices?
Giant Tiger will only collect, use or disclose your Personal Information with your consent, for the purposes indicated at the point of collection or in this Privacy Policy. We provide the following options where you wish to change your choices around how your information is used or disclosed:
i. You can let us know your preferences when you create a Giant Tiger Loyalty Program account on our website
ii. You can opt in to receive marketing commercial messages when you enter into a contest or promotion by checking a separate box, or through your Giant Tiger Loyalty Program account (if you have created one)
iii. You can opt out of receiving marketing commercial messages by clicking “unsubscribe” within any marketing commercial message you receive, or through your Giant Tiger Loyalty Program account (if you have created one)
iv. You can opt out of receiving text messages by replying “STOP” to any text message you receive, or through your Giant Tiger Loyalty Program account (if you have created one)
v. By contacting our Privacy Office to change your preferences, opt out or receive more information on changing your preferences on any of the above.
J. Links to Other Websites
Our website may contain links to other websites, including content from other websites that is occasionally framed within Giant Tiger’s websites.
- For example, our website contains a link to Giant Tiger’s Facebook page. If you click this link (https://www.facebook.com/GiantTiger) it will take you away from the Giant Tiger website, to Facebook, where your information may be subject to Facebook’s privacy policies.
Please note that the privacy policies applicable to the collection of Personal Information on those other websites may be different from this one and we have no control or responsibility for the privacy practices of third party websites. We encourage you to read the privacy policies of all websites you visit, before you share any Personal Information on a website.
K. Privacy Policy Revisions
We may change or add to this Privacy Policy from time to time, so we encourage you to review it periodically. Revisions may reflect changes in how we collect, use, share and protect your Personal Information, as well as changes in our legal or regulatory obligations.
